'I'm just very disappointed in myself' - Former Tennessee Vols QB Hendon Hooker doesn't hold back after NFL preseason loss

Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Hendon Hooker didn't have a great night in the Detroit Lions' preseason loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in the annual Hall of Fame game on Thursday.

Hooker, who is entering his third season with the Lions, was the second quarterback to enter the game for the Lions (Kyle Allen, who is competing with Hooker for the backup job, received the start for Detroit).

The former Vol completed three-of-six passes for 18 yards and an interception while taking two sacks. Hooker also rushed three times for nine yards.

"Hooker got to a couple of good checks for us," said Lions head coach Dan Campbell after the game. "He saw it, saw the defense, audibled on his own, which was outstanding. So that was promising. But he was up and down, too."

"And it's hard. I mean, I don't want to make excuses for him, but when you come in and you're down two scores and you try to get in a rhythm, but you also, do we push it or do we not? That's not the easiest thing for him to get a guy in a rhythm when you're kind of where we're at."

Hooker was a bit tougher on himself after the game.

"I wish we had practice tomorrow," said Hooker. "I'm just very disappointed in myself as far as -- like I was saying earlier, just leading the troops down the field and making more plays."

"Taking care of the ball is something huge that we preach on and we didn't do that today," added Hooker. "We had multiple turnovers, which is not in our character to do, so. We've taken care of the ball really well over this camp and that's what we plan to do so our expectations weren't met in that regard, nor in the regard of making plays."

Hooker is expected to get the start in the Lions' next preseason game (August 8 against the Atlanta Falcons) as he continues to battle Allen for the No. 2 quarterback job in Detroit.
