The Bengals could be without two key members of their rookie class on Friday night in Washington. 

Defensive end Joseph Ossai has already been ruled out after suffering a right wrist injury against Tampa Bay. 

"We're still getting more information," head coach Zac Taylor said on Wednesday when asked about Ossai's injury. "I don't want to be too quick to speak on something I don't have all the information on yet."

It's unclear if the rookie suffered a broken bone, but it sounds like the Bengals are consulting with a specialist—maybe multiple—before determining when he can return to the field. 

Cincinnati could also take the field without D'Ante Smith. The fourth-rounder out of ECU has had an impressive camp and is in the mix for a starting job. He didn't practice on Wednesday because he was dehydrated. 

"He just had a dehydration issue yesterday," Taylor said. "There's a chance he doesn't play two days from now. That would be more of a precautionary thing. He's going to be fine."

Smith had been rotating with the first-team offense at left guard. He could still win a starting job, even though he could be out against Washington.

"You’re not going to rule somebody out just because of something that limits them for a couple of days," Taylor said. "He’s been making good progress. By no means has he earned a starting job but he’s certainly in the mix for the competition. We want to see him to continue to be in the mix. Because the young guys that show that potential, they only get better with reps. So we’ll continue to work him into the mix. Disappointing. You’d love to see him play in the game. It’s not his fault. We’ll just react. We have plenty of practices next week and one more game to play."

Injury Updates

Pooka Williams is expected to play against Washington. The speedster will get a chance to show the coaches what he can do in a game after being out last week. 

Defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi will also be on the field. The veteran has impressed, despite missing the early stages of training camp.  

Eli Apple and Ricardo Allen won't play against Washington as they continue to make their way back from hamstring injuries. The same goes for defensive back Donnie Lewis. 

Khalid Kareem will miss a second-straight game, as will Trayveon Williams (hamstring), who was able to practice this week, but isn't ready for game action. 

That means guys like Darius Hodge, Chris Evans and Jacques Patrick will get more playing time in their quest to make the 53-man roster.
