Insider fuels Davante Adams trade rumors

One league insider speculated that Raiders star wideout Davante Adams is a name that could pop up on the trade block this season.

"I'm not saying they'll trade him. I don't even know if they'd consider it," wrote ESPN's Dan Graziano. "If he doesn't believe he fits in the Jimmy Garoppolo-led offense, and if the season in Las Vegas gets off to a bad start, Adams could absolutely start making noise about wanting out."

In February, the Raiders released longtime QB Derek Carr, Adams' college teammate and friend. After they signed Garoppolo to a three-year, $72.75M deal in March, he didn't seem thrilled about playing with the injury-prone passer.

"We [Adams and the front office] don't see eye-to-eye on what's best for us right now," Adams told the Ringer's Mirin Fader. "If we play a certain brand of ball, I can get [Garoppolo] to conform to whatever. But if we use him a certain type of way, it's going to be tough for us to maximize who we should be this year."

Furthermore, the 30-year-old — who has never played in a Super Bowl — probably wants to play for a contender. Las Vegas missed the playoffs last season with a 6-11 record, and the team isn't projected to improve. Per BetMGM, the Raiders' 2023 over-under win total is 6.5, last in the AFC West.

Although there would be a massive trade market for the six-time Pro Bowler, the Raiders moving him remains unlikely. Adams is in his prime and led the league in receiving TDs (14 in 17 games) last season. Plus, his 2024 cap hit ($25.35M) detracts potential suitors.

While it wouldn't be surprising to see trade speculation gain traction throughout the season, don't expect Las Vegas to ship him out.
