Insider guarantees Eagles will have new punter in 2023

Philadelphia’s Howard Eskin has been giving hot takes on 94 WIP Sports Radio since 1986. But his latest take on Eagles’ punter Arryn Siposs is accurate and Eagles fans should be extremely happy.

While appearing on the station’s morning show, Eskin guaranteed the team will have a new punter next year while debating Siposs' ability with hosts Joe DeCamara and John Ritchie.

Eskin claims that while Siposs will be cut, he had a good 2023 season overall. Ritchie and Decamara both disagreed and argued the team should have signed another punter for the Super Bowl.

Statistically, Siposs' 2022 season was nothing special. His 45.6 average ranked 26th among punters. His long punt of 59 yards tied for 32nd place and his 16 punts inside the 20-yard line tied for 29th.

Siposs punted twice in Super Bowl LVII. His first went for 57 yards to the Chiefs’ 22-yard line. His second was a fourth-quarter shank that went right through the hearts of Eagles fans.

Facing 4th-and-2 at their own 32-yard line and trailing by a point, Philadelphia asked Siposs to punt the ball. He responded with a 38-yard kick off the side of his foot to the Chiefs’ Kadarius Toney who set a Super Bowl record with a 65-yard return to the Eagles' five-yard line. The Chiefs scored a touchdown three plays later.

Moving on from Siposs would cost Philadelphia just over $8,000 in dead money this year, so the salary cap won't be a problem. But who takes his place if he’s released? The team didn’t draft a punter this year but they did agree to terms with Ty Zentner, a free-agent kicker/punter from Kansas State.

Keep in mind that Eskin isn’t just a talking head. He’s also the Eagles sideline reporter and very close to the team. He must have seen something in OTAs to guarantee a player’s release. Apparently, the punter’s job is now Zentner’s to lose.
