Insider Predicts Browns Draft Strategy at No. 2

The Cleveland Browns have a ton of options in this year's NFL Draft, with the most important position of need being at quarterback.

Deshaun Watson suffered his second Achilles injury in three months and will likely miss the entire 2025 season. Cleveland needs an answer at quarterback, especially since Watson, even when healthy, didn't appear to be a long-term solution under center.

With the No. 2 overall pick in April, the Browns have an opportunity to take one of the consensus top two quarterbacks this season - if that's what they decide to do.

However, The Ringer's Todd McShay says he's hearing otherwise.

“I’ve heard from multiple sources: Cleveland, they’re not pulling the trigger on a quarterback," McShay said on his own show. "They don’t believe that this is the year to do that. That they are not a quarterback in this class away. If it had been last year’s class, they feel really good that they can take off and run.”

That could mean that the Browns don't think Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders is the answer for them, and they'll go a different direction with the No. 2 pick.

That could be defense, especially if Myles Garrett gets his way and is traded away this offseason.

McShay also says he's heard the Browns are interested in giving Kirk Cousins a look to serve as next season's quarterback in preparation of a better quarterback class in 2026 - that might include Texas Longhorns signal caller Arch Manning.

Or, all of this could be incorrect and the Browns will take Ward or Sanders. There's no possible way to know until it happens.
