Insider shares big injury update on Eagles' Jalen Hurts

The Philadelphia Eagles are doing a good job of hiding it if they're concerned about the fact that quarterback Jalen Hurts sported a left knee brace in the second half of this past Sunday's 31-17 win over the Miami Dolphins.

For a piece published Wednesday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported that sources say Hurts' issue "is not serious" and that "there's no structural damage to the knee." Fowler's update came after NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport previously shared via X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, that Hurts' knee "is nothing that would keep him out of a game" and may not "even keep him out of practice" ahead of this Sunday's matchup between the 6-1 Eagles and 3-4 Washington Commanders at Washington's FedExField.

"The team will monitor how he feels during the week to determine whether he needs the brace Sunday against Washington," Fowler added. "Either way, the situation is considered minor and Hurts will remain in the lineup barring surprise."

Some assumed the fact that Hurts accumulated just 21 rushing yards, his fewest in a single game this season, against Miami showed his knee bothered him more than either he or head coach Nick Sirianni would want outsiders to know. However, Chris Franklin of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com noted Wednesday that "Hurts has mainly used his legs to escape pass rushers with quarterback draws mixed into his rushes" this season.

Per ESPN stats, Hurts enters Week 8 ranked second among quarterbacks with 274 rushing yards and tied for fourth among all players with six rushing touchdowns. He's eighth among eligible players with a 61.9 adjusted QBR on the campaign but has also thrown a league-high eight interceptions (tied with Jimmy Garoppolo of the Las Vegas Raiders).

As of Wednesday afternoon, OddsChecker listed an Eagles side expected to start Hurts as six-and-a-half-point road favorites against the Commanders.
