Insider updates Steelers' pursuit of offensive upgrade

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ offense has looked much better in the 2025 season, but it still has some work to do. The team made a splash by trading for superstar wide receiver DK Metcalf ahead of the season, signaling their intent to revamp a struggling passing game. However, the Steelers then moved on from George Pickens, leaving a familiar void in the wide receiver room. This has created a dilemma Pittsburgh has faced for several seasons: they have talent at the top of the depth chart but often feel like they are missing that one key piece to take their offense to an elite level.

It feels like the Steelers are just one addition away from being labeled serious Super Bowl contenders. Metcalf provides a dynamic weapon on the outside, but depth and versatility at wide receiver remain a concern. Opposing defenses can still focus on key targets, and the lack of a consistent second or third threat limits the offense’s ceiling. With quarterback play stabilizing and the running game providing balance, adding the right receiver could be the difference between a playoff team and a legitimate championship contender.

NFL insider Adam Schefter shared on "The Pat McAfee Show" on Monday that Steelers general manager Omar Khan is actively exploring the trade market for a wide receiver. Khan’s willingness to pursue a trade underscores the urgency of putting the offense in position to compete at the highest level. Steelers fans will be watching closely, hoping that the front office can find that missing piece to complete an offense capable of making a deep playoff run.

While Schefter didn’t provide many details, he made it clear that he has heard Pittsburgh is actively working the phones in search of a wide receiver. There are several talented options across the league that could be available via trade as teams position themselves for a playoff push. With the trade deadline fast approaching on Nov. 4, time is quickly running out for teams hoping to make bold moves to strengthen their rosters for a 2025 Super Bowl run.

Metcalf is the Steelers’ leading wide receiver through the first five games. He has caught 19 of his 31 targets for 356 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Running back Jaylen Warren, who actually missed a game, is still the Steelers’ second-leading receiver with 153 receiving yards. Meanwhile, Calvin Austin III is out with an injury, which only adds to the Steelers’ urgency to acquire additional help at the wide receiver position.

Steelers hopeful to get Aaron Rodgers one more weapon

The Steelers have not won a playoff game since the 2016 season. That is a long time for the Black and Gold to go without experiencing postseason success.

The hope is that Rodgers can help Pittsburgh make a deep playoff run. To achieve that, many feel the Steelers need to make a trade to give Rodgers one more weapon. It sounds like Khan is actively working to do just that. All eyes are on the Steelers' front office as they work the phones before the deadline.
