The Las Vegas Raiders enter this offseason in need of major roster improvements, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. The team needs help at every level and will explore all means of bringing in players who can help this team improve in all facets.
One player who could potentially help the Raiders defense is Chicago Bears linebacker Tremaine Edmunds. An ideal middle linebacker and leader of a defense, Edmunds has totaled at least 102 tackles in each of his eight NFL seasons and could be on the move this summer.
According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Raiders are a team that could be interested in Edmunds, who was granted permission by the Bears to seek out a trade:
One player who has strong trade value and a decent chance to be dealt is Bears linebacker Tremaine Edmunds. The Titans, Raiders and Giants are among teams interested in high-end linebackers, and they like Edmunds, who’s only 27 despite eight years in the league. He was granted permission to seek a trade earlier this week.
Obviously the main question is what it would cost the Raiders to acquire Edmunds, but if the price is right he is certainly a fit and someone who could help elevate this defense. In addition to being a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, Edmunds also excels in coverage as he totaled nine interceptions, 24 passes defensed and a pair of fumble recoveries in the last three seasons with the Bears.
While the Raiders did get an outstanding season from Devin White in 2025, but he is also a free agent this offseason and might not return. Additionally the Raiders were also near the bottom of the league in takeaways so bringing in a playmaker like Edmunds could help in that regard as well.
Edmunds alone wouldn’t be the solution to all the Raiders’ defensive woes, but he is undoubtedly someone who could come in and immediately establish himself as a leader and major piece as this team looks to get things on the right track for 2026.
When it comes to the offensive side of the ball, the biggest issue for the Raiders has been the quarterback position. The team has yet to find its franchise quarterback, but that issue could be solved as they are expected to take Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza with the top overall pick in this year’s draft. Mendoza had his first formal interview with the team at the NFL Draft Combine and feels it went fantastic.
