Jameis Winston has a lot of incentives (literally) to win the New York Giants’ starting quarterback job in 2025.

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reported Monday on some interesting details in the veteran quarterback Winston’s new contract with the Giants. Winston reportedly has an incentive package worth up to $4M in the contract.

According to Breer, Winston has $250K incentives (each) for 43%, 50%, 60% and 70% playing time. He also has individual $250K incentives for reaching certain statistical benchmarks (namely, a 92.5 passer rating, a 65% completion percentage, 15-plus TDs with an 88.0 passer rating, and 2,200 passing yards with a 88.0 rating).

On top of that, the former Pro Bowler Winston reportedly has individual $500k incentives for 50% playing time plus reaching the playoffs, 70% playing time plus reaching the playoffs, 55% playing time in a playoff win after 30% playing time in the regular season, and 55% playing time in two playoff wins after 30% playing time in the regular season.

After spending last season with the Cleveland Browns, the 31-year-old Winston signed a two-year, $8M deal with the Giants this offseason. That includes $5.25M guaranteed as well as a $2M signing bonus.

Winston will have a chance to winning the starting job in New York next season, but standing in his way is fellow quarterback Russell Wilson. The 10-time Pro Bowler Wilson signed with the Giants himself this offseason and also has a creative incentive structure tied to playing time, performance, and team success.
