Is 2025 The Year That Raiders DE Tyree Wilson Becomes A Force?

At this instant, the common comparison to Tyree Wilson is Jalen Carter . While Jalen Carter was considered the superior player leading up to the 2023 NFL Draft, Tyree Wilson, the Texas Tech alum, was viewed as the safer choice. The Las Vegas Raiders selected Wilson as the seventh overall pick , while the Philadelphia Eagles chose Carter, the standout from Georgia.

This has created considerable backlash for the Raiders because of the production thus far. No. 9 for Sin City has totaled eight sacks after two seasons. By comparison, No. 98 for the City of Brotherly Love has 10.5 sacks and a Pro Bowl on his resume. However, in the preseason, the gap is beginning to close.

This new coaching staff for the Raiders is utilizing Wilson more in the role of a defensive tackle. Consequently, the third-year defensive lineman is making notable plays and building his reputation.

Tyree Wilson dominating practice at defensive tackle…

Wilson was the clear winner of Raiders practice on Wednesday. Not only did he blow up running plays, but he also earned multiple sacks. The potential is transforming into a reality with flashes showing consistently. With the departure of Christian Wilkins, the Raiders desperately need interior pass rush assistance.

Stats and Wilson do not get along very well. Most of his prominent traits translate to setting edges and blowing up run plays. Overall, his play as a defensive end is meant to stop runs, but defensive tackles unlock the pass-rushing threat.

Although the key players did not participate much in this game, the limited opportunities stood out for Wilson. He made impactful plays throughout the defensive line.

His power is more evident now than it has ever been before. He spoke about his development at practice on Wednesday.

“I feel way faster and more fluid than I have ever been before,” Wilson said. “Wherever I line up, I’ll try to be a problem.”

Reports indicate that the third-year defender is showing increased confidence in his communication skills. He walks around with a smile on his face following impressive performances. It appears that everything is coming together for the Texas Tech alum. The Raiders’ defensive line needs him to step up, and he seems poised to take on an expanded role.
