Is Jets' Aaron Rodgers having second thoughts about playing this season?

It was recently suggested that New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers could return this season from the torn Achilles he suffered in Week 1 regardless of the club's record.

Rodgers sang a somewhat different tune during a Tuesday appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show."

"Are we alive, are we in it? Can I help the team, not hurt the team by being back out there? Can I protect myself? Can I move around and do all the things I want to do? If the answer is yes, then we move in that direction," Rodgers explained, according to SNY. "If the answer is no, I gotta listen to my body."

Jets head coach Robert Saleh hinted that Rodgers will ultimately determine if he plays again this season because the future Hall of Famer is "a grown man" and "knows his body." However, the 4-7 Jets have dropped four straight games and began Tuesday sitting in 15th place in the conference standings.

Benching temporary starting quarterback Zach Wilson in favor of backup Tim Boyle didn't prevent the Jets from enduring a 34-13 home loss to the Miami Dolphins this past Friday. Per ESPN stats, the Jets ended Week 12 ranked 30th in the NFL with an average of 14.8 points per game.

"Obviously, I still need to get cleared by everybody at that point," Rodgers added on Tuesday. "But it's health first and then can I play, are we alive for the playoffs second."

The Jets next host the 5-6 Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. As of Tuesday afternoon, oddschecker listed Gang Green as a 2.5-point underdog for that contest.

It sounds like the Jets could be one more defeat away from Rodgers potentially shutting himself down weeks before Christmas arrives even if he returns to practice when he celebrates his 40th birthday on Saturday.
