Is Ravens' John Harbaugh The Best Coach in the NFL?

NBC Sports NFL writer Patrick Daugherty showed tremendous respect to Baltimore Ravens' head coach John Harbaugh on Thursday. Daugherty ranked his 10 best NFL coaches and Harbaugh was right among the best in the business.

Harbaugh is the listed as third coach in the rankings. He has made the playoffs 12 times since taking over the Baltimore Ravens in 2008. He helped the Ravens win Super Bowl XLVII during the 2012 season. Harbaugh came to the Ravens after a successful stint with the Philadelphia Eagles as their special teams coach.

Kansas City head coach Andy Reid was listed as the top coach, as well he should be. He has won three Super Bowl titles and was close to winning two more. He has been the dominant coach of the most dominant team in the last decade.

Sean McVay of the Los Angeles Rams was the second coach on the list. He led the Rams to a Super Bowl LVI victory during the 2021 season and they have six playoff appearances during his tenure.

Harbaugh comes in at third and an argument can be made he is a better coach than McVay. He can certainly make an argument his 12 playoff appearances in 17 years should give him a boost in the rankings. Harbaugh just signed a contract extension which makes him one of the highest paid coaches in NFL history.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni finish out Daugherty's top five. Shanahan has taken the 49ers to two Super Bowls but lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in both of them.

Sirianni won Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans in February, defeating Reid and the same Chiefs who beat the 49ers the year prior.

The balance of the top 10 is rounded out by Los Angeles Chargers' Jim Harbaugh, Detroit Lions' Dan Campbell, Pittsburgh Steelers' Mike Tomlin, Buffalo Bills' Sean McDermott, and Green Bay Packers' Matt LaFleur.
