It took one day for this Eagles defender to prove he's a starter

Typically, one day of workouts is not enough to say if a player is going to start, but for the Philadelphia Eagles, there might be an exception to the rule.

The Eagles completed their only day of mandatory minicamp as the team is officially off for over a month before training camp begins in July. There were some standouts from the workout, including quarterback Jalen Hurts.

One player stood out from the rest in one of the most important position battles this summer at cornerback.

Kelee Ringo might have punched his ticket to the starting lineup

94 WIP Eagles reporter Eliot Shorr-Parks shared his observations from the team's minicamp, as he said in his interview that cornerback Kelee Ringo had the best day on defense. Shorr-Parks shared that with only one day to prove himself, Ringo shut down the team's top receivers.

"On the defensive side of the ball, I thought Kelee Ringo had an outstanding day today. He had a touchdown breakup in the corner of the end zone. I think it was McKee to Terrace Marshall in the back corner of the end zone, but the throw was good. Terrace Marshall got up for it and Kelee met him at the high point, knocked the ball away. And then his best play of the day might have been a play where he didn't even get targeted. It was 7-on-7, he was matched up one-on-one with A.J. (Brown) when the ball came to Jalen (Hurts), you could he was looking at A.J., he wanted to go that way, but Kelee was stride for stride with A.J. down the sideline and was right with him and the ball wasn't thrown that way. On the final day where he gets to impress coaches, I thought Kelee had a really strong practice."

Ringo is entering his third season in the NFL after the Eagles selected him in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Last season, he finished with 15 tackles, one pass deflection, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 17 games. According to PFF, Ringo earned a grade of 67.2 in coverage, which was ranked 64th out of 222 cornerbacks.

Going into next month's training camp, Ringo is battling with Adoree' Jackson for the starting outside cornerback position. Quinyon Mitchell is already guaranteed the other outside corner spot, and Cooper DeJean is expected to be in the slot with some time at safety and possibly on the outside.

The key separator between Ringo and Jackson is size. Ringo is the tallest cornerback on the roster at six feet, two inches", giving him an advantage to face against the taller receiver and challenge them on one-on-one matchups in the red zone.

Nothing is going to be decided until training camp, but Ringo certainly give himself a leg up on the competition.
