Three Cowboys players' stocks skyrocket after minicamp practice

The first of three mandatory minicamp practices is in the books for the Dallas Cowboys.

While it's true we shouldn't overreact to practices in which no live contact is allowed, there's a lot you can learn if you know what to look out for.

Let's dive into three big winners from practice No. 1 based on the observations from several Cowboys insiders.

TE Brevyn Spann-Ford

Per Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Spann-Ford once again had several snaps with the starters on Tuesday. Harris wrote on social media that "he’s been one of the consistent standouts in media availabilities."

Spann-Ford could realistically emerge as the Cowboys TE2 behind Jake Ferguson this season. Coming out of college, Spann-Ford was known as a great run-blocker thanks to his Minnesota tape. Klayton Adams' and Brian Schottenheimer's offense is expected to ask a lot of its tight ends in the run blocking department.

If he continues to improve as a pass-catcher, he's in for a big year. He's working with the ones for a reason.

LB Jack Sanborn

Just like Mike Zimmer brought Eric Kendricks with him, Sanborn is the guy who best knows Matt Eberflus' defensive scheme. The big difference? Sanborn is not arriving to Dallas with a proven record but rather promising flashes. Well, that hasn't kept him from emerging as the favorite to start at middle linebacker this season.

Per Tommy Yarrish from DallasCowboys.com: "Jack Sanborn held his own in the middle of the field with a couple breakups. Seemed like the offense was trying to work the short middle of the field today and Sanborn was always in the area."

CB Israel Mukuamu

This is a tricky one because the Cowboys offense is said to have given the defensive backfield a rough day, but Mukuamu was tasked with starting reps at outside cornerback. DaRon Bland worked in the slot, an ongoing trend this offseason.

For Mukuamu, a potential role at cornerback is in the cards. Though he will have to earn it in training camp we might just see him finally overcome a rocky start to his career in which he was consistently moved around.
