Jacoby Brissett and Cardinals reach agreement over new contract

While filling in for the injured QB Kyler Murray, Brissett played as the QB1 for the Cardinals. Brissett appeared in 14 games for them and threw for 3,366 yards and scored 23 touchdowns. 

Amid the contract negotiations, he missed most of the offseason workouts, which ultimately led the Cardinals to consider his demand to reconsider his contract, per Darren Urban of azcardinals.com.

Even after his contract extension, his job as QB1 is still not secured. He publicly admitted that he has to compete with Gardner Minshew and the rookie Carson Beck.

Coaching staff backs Jacoby Brissett despite QB competition

Ahead of the 2026 NFL season, the Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett earned praise from the offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett as the new contract comes into play, per Darren Urban from azcardinals.com. 

“He’s got that veteran presence,” offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett said. “You know, when you first get the rookies, they don’t know what’s going on, so I think that just the conversations, the things that (Jacoby) has gone through, just understanding the football, different systems he’s been in, I think all those things help him with us, and you see that growth and just his wisdom.”

Head coach Mike LaFleur also expressed confidence in Brissett’s role entering the season, emphasizing that the team’s goal is to have him ready to lead the offense when it matters most.

“The plan is for us to get our offense as good as it can be, and to be peaking at the right time, for him to be our starter,” LaFleur said. 

The comments reinforced Arizona’s belief that Brissett’s leadership and experience remain key assets as the Cardinals prepare for the 2026 season.
