Jaguars Announce Travon Walker Development Before Chiefs Game

The Jacksonville Jaguars' former No. 1 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, defensive end Travon Walker, has been solid to start the season. Through four games, he's racked up 12 tackles, two tackles for loss, two sacks, one pass deflection and six pressures.

His performance has been a big reason for the Jaguars' strong defensive unit, which ranks fifth in points per game allowed (18) and 15th in total yards per game allowed (316.3).

However, Walker sustained a wrist injury in Jacksonville's Week 4 win over the San Francisco 49ers. It puts into question whether Walker will be available for the Jaguars' upcoming "Monday Night Football" matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Jaguars Reveal Travon Walker News

On Thursday, while talking to the media, Jaguars head coach Liam Coen announced Walker had undergone a surgical procedure on his wrist, according to ESPN Radio's Mia O'Brien.

That, of course, sounds serious, but Coen also revealed that the pass rusher is going to "do everything in his power" to be available against the Chiefs.

What Missing Walker Could Mean for the Jaguars

It's certainly not easy to replace someone like Walker, whose Pro Football Focus overall grade of 79.2 ranks 23rd out of 164 qualified EDs.

Up next on the Jaguars' depth chart, though, is 10-year veteran Emmanuel Ogbah, who is playing his first season with Jacksonville.

He's appeared in all four games this year, but his only statistics racked up are two tackles and one quarterback hit. However, with 47.5 career sacks under his belt, Ogbah is still a solid replacement if Walker can't play against the Chiefs.

Kansas City's offensive line is a talented group, though, allowing just seven sacks so far this season, which is tied for the 21st fewest. Having Walker on the field is obviously ideal for their chances of winning.

Kickoff is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET at EverBank Stadium, airing on ABC and ESPN.
