The New York Giants are stuck in a tough spot with star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence II.
He requested a trade after years of failed contract negotiations, and even though he's coming off a down year, he's still one of the best interior defenders in the game.
Nevertheless, that doesn't mean the Jacksonville Jaguars will be in the mix to get him.
Despite admitting that his team needed more strength in the defensive line, Jaguars GM James Gladstone denied that the front office has talked about making a move at the Giants star.
“That’s not something we’ve gone into,” Gladstone said. “Obviously, he’s under contract with them, so not at liberty necessarily to even talk about it.”
Lawrence only had a half sack in 2025, but he posted a career-best 9.0 in the previous campaign. He can also still be a disruptive force against the run.
While negotiations turned sour, new Giants head coach John Harbaugh still thinks there's a chance they might be able to sort things out and keep him in the Big Apple.
“We’ll find out,” Harbaugh said, per SNY. “I think the prospects are going to be high because we want Dexter here, I believe Dexter wants to be here. That’s a good formula, but there’s business involved.”
The Giants could also explore moving edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux, a former top-10 pick who's in the final year of his contract.
And even though they don't play the same position, moving two major contributors to the defensive line in the same offseason might be too big a risk.
