Jaguars Make Trade Decision on Wednesday
Doug Engle/Florida Times-Union / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Jacksonville Jaguars are still on a high following their impressive win over the Kansas City Chiefs on “Monday Night Football.” Trevor Lawrence and Co. improved to 4-1 on the season after taking down Patrick Mahomes and the mighty Chiefs, 31-28, as the Jaguars tied the Indianapolis Colts for the top spot in the AFC South.

Fresh off their marquee win, the Jaguars decided to make a move on Wednesday by agreeing to a trade with the Cleveland Browns. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport , the Jaguars are sending cornerback Tyson Campbell to the Browns in exchange for CB Greg Newsome II. The deal also involves the Jaguars sending their 2026 seventh-round pick to Cleveland in exchange for the Browns' 2026 sixth-round pick.

This is essentially a talent swap as both teams trade for players with the same position. Both players are also 25 years old, meaning Campbell and Newsome have the same timeline.

For the Jaguars, this move signals their intention to address a need in their secondary, particularly with their slot coverage. Newsome has found success in Cleveland playing both on the inside and outside, which aligns with defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen’s matchup-zone concepts.

The Browns, on the other hand, are a good fit for Campbell’s ability to excel in press systems. Cleveland employs more aggressive, man-heavy schemes on the defensive end, and the change in scenery could benefit the former Georgia Bulldogs standout.

It is also worth noting that this is Cleveland’s second trade in two days after they sent veteran quarterback Joe Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals on Tuesday. General manager Andrew Berry has continued his pattern of aggressive behavior with this latest move.

Ultimately, this is an example of a trade that has the potential to be a mutually beneficial deal for both parties. Both the Browns and the Jaguars have addressed fit rather than talent disparity, which could end up being beneficial for all parties involved.
