Jaguars Must Trade for this NFC Superstar

The Philadelphia Eagles season is likely in the dumps after Jalen Hurts was ruled out for the season and after Lane Johnson officially retired, and this also is going to have a rippling effect on the entire team. The Eagles have players with Saquon Barkley and Devonta Smith who are dealing with injuries.

For a rebuilding Eagles team and a contending Jaguars team, a Jalen Carter trade could work for both sides. Philadelphia is reeling, in the midst of a 5-game losing streak, and there is now wide speculation that the team will sell at the deadline.

Carter’s inconsistency has added to the frustration: in Monday’s 38-21 loss to Dallas, the league’s highest-paid defensive tackle played 59 of 68 snaps and recorded only two assisted tackles, prompting Vic Fangio to say Carter has to “get the mindset to where he’ll be consistent all the time.” Jacksonville is heading the other way, holding a two-game lead in the AFC South, and has reason to look for reinforcements for a Super Bowl push. Defensive tackle has been the Jaguars’ sore spot for over a year.

They were reportedly interested in Quinnen Williams at last season’s deadline, and their current interior is anchored by 32-year-old Arik Armstead. The Jaguars have also seen Carter at his best firsthand: in London this month, he had a couple of strip sacks, three tackles for loss and a batted pass against them. The biggest obstacle is money. Carter signed a four-year, $152 million extension this offseason.
