Jacksonville Jaguars rookie running back Travis Etienne was lost for the entire upcoming regular season due to the Lisfranc injury he suffered in the preseason game at the New Orleans Saints on Aug. 23.
As Kevin Patra updated for the NFL website, Etienne underwent foot surgery performed by Dr. Robert Anderson on Thursday, and the 22-year-old provided an update on his status later in the day:
Surgery went great, thanks to everyone for all the love & support!

Road to Recovery starts now! #BlessedAndGrateful
Jacksonville fans shouldn't get their hopes up despite the good news. Etienne is expected to be sidelined a minimum of 12 weeks, and the Jaguars had already placed him on season-ending injured reserve before Thursday's developments. He's not eligible to return until the 2022 campaign.
However, the timeline suggests Etienne should be 100% by the time official team workouts begin next year. From now through the early days of winter, he will have to watch 2020 undrafted rookie James Robinson serve as Jacksonville's RB1.
Robinson recorded 1,070 rushing yards and 1,414 total scrimmage yards last season.
