Jaguars sign four players to kick off free-agent negotiations

The Jacksonville Jaguars wasted no time making moves when the legal tampering window ahead of NFL free agency opened up on Monday.

The AFC South club agreed to terms with wide receiver Christian Kirk, guard Brandon Scherff, linebacker Foye Oluokun and defensive tackle Folorunso Fatukasi — all within the first few hours of the negotiating period beginning.

Kirk's deal is reported to be for four years and worth $84 million, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The 25-year-old wideout led the Arizona Cardinals last season with 77 receptions for 982 yards.

Scherff, 30, hasn't played a full season since 2016 due to lingering injuries but has still been a Pro Bowl selection five out of the last six years, all spent playing for Washington.

The quick work the Jaguars have already done shows how desperate they are to fill holes in the roster and bounce back from a catastrophic 2021 campaign. Despite landing quarterback Trevor Lawrence with the first-overall pick in the draft, the Jags' season was overtaken by poor on-field coaching and even worse off-the-field decision-making by first-year head coach Urban Meyer, who was fired before the campaign was through.

Jacksonville ended Lawrence's first NFL season in the AFC basement with a 3-14 record.
