With Trevor Lawrence in concussion protocol and his season likely over, the Jacksonville Jaguars have decided to sign some insurance at quarterback.

On Tuesday, the Jags announced the signing of veteran John Wolford who will slot in behind Mac Jones and third-string QB C.J. Beathard on the practice squad.

Wolford, a Jacksonville native, entered the league with the Jets as an undrafted free agent back in 2018. Since then, he's appeared in seven games (with four starts) all for the Los Angeles Rams from 2020-22.

In that span he totaled 61 completions for 626 yards and a touchdown. And most recently, he spent training camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Wolford played his college ball at Wake Forest for four years where he earned second-team all-conference honors in the ACC and set several school records for passer rating, yards and touchdowns as a senior.

In addition to signing Wolford, Jacksonville also brought in punter Matt Haack and long snapper Tucker Addington — releasing defensive end Joe Gaziano, cornerback Tyler Hall and offensive lineman Jerome Carvin in the process.

On Monday, NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that he'd be " surprised" if Lawrence suited up for the Jags again this season. Saying on the "Pat McAfee Show:"

They're 2-10. He's been dealing with a left shoulder injury. He's now got the concussion. I would say, frankly, in my opinion, I'd be surprised if we see Trevor Lawrence play again this season. Like, why are we putting him out there? To me, it's time to rest him up and start getting him ready for 2025. He was dealing with a shoulder injury that he was playing through that was hard enough to be out there now you get this massive blow to his head where he has to be carted off. Why are we going to put him back out there at 2-10?

The Jaguars play the Titans on Sunday at 1 PM ET. Mac Jones is expected to get the start after a 235-yard, two TD performance in last week's loss to the Texans.
