Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence is expected to miss time in concussion protocol following a brutal hit to the head he suffered during Sunday's Week 13 loss to the Houston Texans.
As Lawrence slid on a first-down scramble, Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair lowered his shoulder and delivered a brutal hit on the defenseless quarterback.
Lawrence immediately went into the "fencing response," signaling a traumatic brain injury. The 25-year-old quarterback was carted off the field and immediately ruled out with a concussion.
Primary backup Mac Jones finished the game after Lawrence's exit, completing 20 of his 32 pass attempts for 235 yards and two touchdowns.
Veteran quarterback C.J. Beathard will serve as Jones' backup if Lawrence misses time. And now, the Jaguars have signed another veteran signal caller to serve as the team's third QB option.
Jacksonville signed QB John Wolford to the practice squad on Tuesday.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have made the following roster moves, the team announced today:
— JaguarsPR (@JaguarsPR) December 3, 2024
- Signed P Matt Haack, LS Tucker Addington and QB John Wolford to the practice squad
- Released DE Joe Gaziano, CB Tyler Hall and OL Jerome Carvin from the practice squad
Wolford has served practice squad and active roster stints for multiple NFL franchises since going unselected in the 2018 NFL Draft. The 29-year-old quarterback most recently took the field for regular-season action with the Los Angeles Rams, suiting up as the team's starter for three games in 2022.
The 2-10 Jaguars have lost five straight games. The team is set to face off against the Tennessee Titans in a Week 14 matchup on Sunday afternoon.
