Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton will miss the remainder of the 2026 season after tearing his quadriceps, a development that removes a key piece from one of the NFL’s most effective run defenses, per Ian Rapoport of NFL media.

Hamilton, 29, left Sunday’s 42-7 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in the second quarter and was carted off the field at EverBank Stadium.

Initial concerns centered on a knee issue, but further evaluation confirmed a torn quad. Head coach Liam Coen confirmed Monday that the injury will sideline Hamilton for the rest of the year, with the team expected to place him on injured reserve.

The loss arrives at a delicate moment for both player and franchise. Hamilton was playing out the final season of the three-year, $34.5 million extension he signed with Jacksonville in 2023, after the club selected him in the third round of the 2020 draft out of Ohio State.

That deal followed a four-year rookie contract worth roughly $4.8 million. With the current agreement set to expire, he is scheduled to reach unrestricted free agency this offseason for the first time in his career.

Through seven games in 2026, Hamilton started every contest and recorded 16 tackles, half a sack, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.

His impact, however, has rarely been fully captured by traditional box-score numbers.

Teammates and coaches have repeatedly described him as central to Jacksonville’s run defense, which entered the week allowing a league-low 77.4 rushing yards per game.

The Jaguars also rank among the NFL’s stingiest units in points allowed. Hamilton’s ability to occupy blockers and control the interior has helped set the tone for a group that has kept the 5-2 Jaguars atop the AFC South.

In the aftermath of the injury, Coen noted that the defensive line will operate by committee. Veterans Arik Armstead and Matt Dickerson, along with younger options such as Ruke Orhorhoro and rookie Albert Regis, are expected to absorb increased snaps.

The club also added depth by signing Austin Johnson to the practice squad.

With the trade deadline approaching, Jacksonville may still explore additional interior help, though any reinforcement will arrive without the continuity Hamilton had provided since arriving as a draft pick.

For Hamilton, the timing is particularly frustrating.

After building a reputation as a reliable, high-effort interior defender across seven seasons in Jacksonville—appearing in more than 90 career games and making dozens of starts—he now faces a long rehabilitation while his contractual future remains unresolved.

The organization must recalibrate its defensive plans for the stretch run without one of the players who had quietly anchored its front.
