Perennially considered one of the NFL’s most underrated wide receivers, Jakobi Meyers put the league on notice last season with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Meyers enjoyed a career year in 2024, catching 87 passes for 1,027 yards. It was the first time Meyers had ever crossed the 1,000-yard threshold in his career, despite having Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell at quarterback for most of the season. His emergence certainly made the midseason decision to trade Davante Adams to the New York Jets easier to swallow, and the Raiders found a complementary piece on offense for sensational tight end Brock Bowers.
However, Meyers now is in a contract year in 2025, and he hopes to make the most of it to secure a massive payday by this time next year.
In the final year of a three-year, $33 million contract signed in 2023, Meyers did not state whether or not contract negotiations have started, but made a comment to suggest he would like to stay.
“I want to be here, for sure, but that’s all I can really say on it right now,” Meyers said, per the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Adam Hill. “That’s business between us and the top floor. So, I’m going to just hold that one down for now.”
However, Meyers has earned his opportunities to get a big contract next spring.
Working his way up with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2019, Meyers went from afterthought to reliable receiver. That work ethic lead him to the Raiders, and he has only continued to improve as a player since coming to Las Vegas. Even standing at the precipice of a major payday, however, the hunger that Meyers had to carry him forward in his career has not just remained, but gotten stronger.
“I’ve been doing this since I got in the league,” Meyers said. “Nothing changed. I’m really just trying to make plays and go about my business.”
If Meyers has a season that builds off of last year, he will find out that his business will end up being a lucrative one.
