Jalen Carter Punishment Decision Receives Update After Dak Prescott Incident

Just as soon as his Week 1 game against the Dallas Cowboys started, the night was over for Philadelphia Eagles star defensive tackle Jalen Carter.

Before the first offense snap, Carter engaged an a confrontation with Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. The former Georgia football star was then seen spitting at the quarterback while standing just a few inches away.

An official in close view immediately threw a flag and Carter was ejected from the contest.

Jalen Carter Admits His Mistake

Following Philadelphia's 24-20 victory on Thursday night, the former first-round pick admitted his mistake and apologized to his teammates.

"It was a mistake that happened on my side, and it just won't happen again," Carter said after the game. "I feel bad for my teammates and the fans out there. ... It won't happen again. I can make that promise."

While Carter received the game misconduct for his actions, a later video showed Prescott spitting in the general direction of the Eagles defensive tackle. Asked whether he is concerned about being suspended by the NFL, Carter said: "If I get that text or that call and have that conversation, we'll handle it then."

Jalen Carter Punishment Decision Coming Soon

On Sunday, Sept. 7, ESPN's Adam Schefter revealed a suspension remains on the table for Carter and that a decision on his punishment would be coming on Monday, Sept. 8.

"At the very least, Carter will face a substantial fine, and he could also be suspended, sources told ESPN. A decision by the NFL is expected Monday, according to sources, as the Eagles return to work and get ready for a Super Bowl rematch in Kansas City next Sunday against theĀ Chiefs," Schefter reported.

Meanwhile, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni made it clear any internal punishment for Carter would be kept in-house.

"I want these guys to play with great energy, great tenacity while doing it within the rules of the game," Sirianni said. "So we'll address that."
