What's more to say about a quarterback who has done all the right things on and off the field, but people still overlook him?
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has been at the center of debates on whether he is elite or just another quarterback. That part of the debate took another turn with Bleacher Report writer Brad Gagnon sharing the odds of players winning the MVP.
Hurts was included in the second tier of players with a +1700 odds of taking home the award. Gagnon shared his arguments for and against Hurts to win it.
For: The reigning Super Bowl MVP has the skill set and the support, and if the Eagles can keep rolling even with a drop-off from Saquon Barkley, who knows...
Against: Barkley's presence makes it difficult, along with the fact that the Eagles are so loaded across the board. Their success is hardly ever strongly tied to Hurts.
The broken record has been turning over and over again regarding Hurts and how great he is. Everyone continues to be fixated on the fact that he threw for 2,903 yards last year. Is that a low number? Yes. Does that matter all the time? No.
Hurts threw just five interceptions on the season, which was the lowest of his career when starting in his last 15 games. He also contributed to 32 touchdowns on offense and made sure to be nearly automatic in short-yard situations with the Tush Push.
What made last year great for Hurts was his decision-making in the pocket. He was much smoother with his throwing of the football compared to the disastrous 2023 campaign. 68.7% completion percentage and 103.7 passer rating is nothing to balk at. Hurts was on the money when he threw the football.
His accuracy was even more impressive in 2024 as he completed 79.1% of the passes he threw when the ball was on target, the highest of his career. He also had a career-low 13.4% of poor throws per attempt.
The Eagles are not built to be an offense that throws for over 4,000 yards, nor should they be. They are more successful with a nice balance of run and pass. It's what every NFL team should strive to do instead of slinging it 40-50 times a game.
Hurts runs the Eagles' offense to perfection because that is his job. He does it better than anyone in the NFL, and the days till opening day can't end soon enough for him to prove that.
