All the talk this week has been centered around this mysterious offensive meeting that happened at the Philadelphia Eagles facility after the mini bye.
It was first brought up by Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni as he talked about what the team is doing to get the offense back up and running. Eagles running back Saquon Barkley was asked about it by NBC Sports Philadelphia's John Clark. Barkley "loved" the meeting and what came out of it, but wouldn't reveal their true identity on offense.
Now the focus was on quarterback Jalen Hurts. What did he take from that meeting?
While talking with the media, Hurts didn't give too much detail about it, but did say that they were all in this together and discussed the identity of the offense. A key takeaway was finding alignment and structure with the unit, as Hurts mentioned, it's a now-or-never mentality for the team.
“There is urgency. I have urgency. It starts with me. It starts with the direction we get from KP. We have to help each other. We have to play together as a group.”
It's been a mostly average season for Hurts as he's thrown for 1,172 yards and eight touchdowns to one interception in six games. He's also rushed for 195 yards and five touchdowns during that same span.
The Super Bowl MVP has taken some criticism for his inconsistency with throwing the deep ball. Two games in a row, he missed wide-open deep passes that would have been touchdowns to A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.
Patullo has discussed how the offense has been running more RPOs and letting Hurts decide on whether to run the football or throw it. Hurts has taken more passes, which is part of why the team hasn't run the ball as much. Patullo gave Hurts credit for making the right decision on those reads.
The success and failure of the offense all start with Hurts, so fans will see if he can answer the call against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 7.
