Jalen Hurts' one move towards Dallas Goedert brought back elite QB-TE duo

Sometimes, it just takes a little respect to bring someone to understand the importance of staying home. That's precisely what happened between Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and tight end Dallas Goedert.

It wasn't the smoothest offseason for Goedert, as there were talks of him being traded or released as the Eagles were not looking to pay him the $14 million on his contract. The two sides were able to come up with a restructured one-year, $10 million contract for 2025 to keep him in Philadelphia.

Goedert told the Philadelphia Inquirer that a lot of that had to do with Hurts. It wasn't so much of a pitch that came from Hurts, but the type of person and character he is that decided to come back easier for Goedert.

“He didn’t really recruit me back, but he made me feel like I was an important part of the team,” Goedert told The Inquirer on Tuesday via Eagles Wire. “I was important to him, and that was obviously a really good feeling.”

“The connection that we have, being able to play with him ever since he became a starter, and I feel like we just grow as a duo each year. I’ve got so much confidence in him, and I think that’s reciprocated the other way, too. Playing with a quarterback that you’re comfortable with was also important to me. Someone that values you just makes that even better.”

Goedert belongs in Philadelphia with Hurts

When the Eagles selected Goedert in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, he was being brought in to eventually replace fan favorite Zach Ertz. It was evidently clear from the beginning that Goedert was going to be special. That wasn't taken to the next level until 2021 (Hurts' first full year as the starter).

Goedert balled out in 2021 with a career-high in receptions (56) and yards (830) while adding four touchdowns. From that moment moving forward, Goedert and Hurts had evident chemistry together that was only going to bloom more.

There has been some regression in Goedert's game, though, with the main reason being the time missed because of injuries. Missing 15 games in the last three seasons will do that to his numbers.

Hurts has proven that he trusts three guys to throw the football down the field and in big moments: A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Goedert. Once the trust is there, it's hard for a team to break it, especially if they still show tremendous potential.

The 2025 season is a crucial one for Goedert, as he must have one of the best seasons of his career if the 30-year-old wants to remain in Philly. If there is one thing Eagles fans know, it is that Hurts will ensure Goedert every opportunity to succeed.
