Jalen Hurts praises Eagles for embracing mindset on chasing perfection

Quarterback Jalen Hurts has praised his Philadelphia Eagles teammates for embracing his attitude throughout the team's 7-0 start to the season.

"I’ve never been one to speak on myself in this way," Hurts told Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio after Sunday's 35-13 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. "But I really felt the transition of this football team and especially being here in my second year starting, I felt the transition of this football team, and I’ve always tried to have the right mentality approaching games and approaching different situations that may come throughout these experiences and what life may bring you. And I feel like the team is really kind of taking on the same mentality and that’s something that I preach as a leader, and I feel like they really bought into it."

Hurts is a legitimate Most Valuable Player candidate featuring for the NFL's lone remaining unbeaten team this fall. Per ESPN stats, the 24-year-old began Monday fifth among eligible quarterbacks with a 105.1 passer rating, eighth with a 60.8 total QBR, and seventh with a 67.0% completion percentage on the campaign. He's thrown for 1,799 yards with 10 touchdowns and two interceptions to go along with 303 rushing yards and six additional scores on the ground.

Despite his incredible numbers, Hurts assured Florio he has "perfection" as his standard as he approaches the midway point of his third pro season.

"Perfection is never attainable, but there ain’t nothing wrong with chasing something you’ll never catch because that’s what it is, we’re chasing something that we’ll never catch," Hurts added during his comments. "But also, maybe we want to achieve things and do great things in the end. I just feel like we all have the same mentality. That’s what’s allowed us to do what we’ve done thus far, and we’ll do everything together."

The Eagles will look to start a season at 8-0 for the first time ever as a franchise when they face the 1-5-1 Houston Texans this coming Thursday night.
