James Daniels & Storm Duck OUT Weeks; Austin Jackson Still Being Evaluated

Mike McDaniel, at his media session on Monday, said both James Daniels and Storm Duck will be out for weeks with their injuries, and that Austin Jackson is still being evaluated with his toe injury, and no time frame for his return is known at this time.

James Daniels has a pectoral injury, and per McDaniel, he will miss a couple of weeks. I would expect Kion Smith to be the starting right guard until Daniels is back.

McDaniel said cornerback Storm Duck’s injury will keep him out a couple of weeks as well. I would tend to think that Rasul Douglas will step in and be CB1 until Duck returns to the field.

Austin Jackson left the game with a toe injury, and per McDaniel, the team is still getting opinions on how severe that is. From the sounds of it Jackson will be out multiple weeks as well, and Larry Borom will take over at right tackle.

Benito Jones, the nose tackle, also has an oblique injury and is week-to-week, and his status for the New England game on Sunday is uncertain.

When asked about tight end Darren Waller, McDaniel said he will try to play this week vs New England, but couldn’t make a promise that he would suit up and play.

Daniels is the injury to keep an eye on here.

The biggest free agent acquisition for the Dolphins, James Daniels, didn’t last many plays before suffering an injury this season.

Early in the 1st quarter, Daniels had to leave the game with a Pectoral injury. His return is questionable.

The Miami Dolphins signed guard James Daniels to a 3-year $24 million deal with $10.735 million guaranteed.

Daniels is a former first-round pick out of Iowa by the Chicago Bears. HE signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2022.

Daniels has played in 90 games, starting 84. In 2024, he only played in 4 games as he tore his Achilles tendon in week 4 of the season. Per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the offer was made to Daniels after his medicals cleared, and he is expected to be able to do football drills this May or June.

In 2023, when Daniels started 15 games, PFF gave him a 62.1 overall grade, ranking him 39th out of 136 guards. A 60.4 pass-blocking grade, ranking 57 out of 136 guards. And a 60-run blocking grade, ranking 52nd out of 136 guards.
