Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions have won the NFC North title in each of the last two seasons. They won a total of 27 wins over that span, and they remain a force to reckon with not just in the division but across the NFL as well.

The Lions are talented on both sides of the ball, and if not for injuries, they might have gone on a deeper run in the NFL playoffs in the 2024 season. All that being said, it’s the Green Bay Packers, who are the betting favorite to end up on top of the NFC North once it’s all said and done in the 2025 NFL regular season.

Over at ESPN Bet Sportsbook, the Packers are priced +175 to rule the NFC North, while the Lions are labeled +185 to do it. The arrival of Micah Parsons to Green Bay has changed the landscape in the NFC North, as he’s viewed as a game-changing talent who can help the Packers win not just the division but the Vince Lombardi Trophy, too.

Goff speaks up on Detroit’s underdog perception amid new-look Packers

After a recent practice, Lions quarterback Jared Goff shared his thoughts on a narrative that says the Lions are an underdog.

“I don’t know. Yeah, it is quite — I mean, it’s confusing because I don’t even know where we stand externally,” said Goff (h/t John Maakaron of Sports Illustrated). “I don’t know what people — I don’t really care, but like are we supposed to be good? Are we supposed to be bad? All these different storylines. So we don’t, you can’t ride that roller coaster, and we don’t. And we shall see, time will tell. Going to try to win this first one and move on from there. But yeah, sorry, I like being on this side of it more when they doubt us, to answer your question.”

Goff and the Lions can make a clearer statement with their actions in Week 1, when they pay Lambeau Field a visit to face Parsons and the Packers this coming Sunday. For what it’s worth, Detroit defeated the Packers both times in 2024.
