Los Angeles Rams EDGE Jared Verse had an injury scare during practice on Thursday. He left practice to get checked out after bumping knees with his teammate, Braden Fiske.

The 2024 Defensive Rookie of the Year apparently posted a tweet that suggested the injury was more serious than it actually was, which was noted by Pro Football Talk. He deleted it, and replied by saying, “Nah I’m playing with yall im fine.

Rams head coach Sean McVay said that he didn’t have an update on his condition during the press conference, so it was unclear what his status would be moving forward. However, the second-year edge rusher put an end to any speculation before it began.

Having Verse healthy will be massive to the Rams’ defensive efforts in 2025. As a rookie last season, Verse recorded 66 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, 18 quarterback hits, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 17 games with 16 starts.

Braden Fiske, who Verse collided with during practice on Thursday, was also up for defensive rookie of the year last season. He even recorded 8.5 sacks, which led the Rams. In total, he recorded 44 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 10 quarterback hits, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 17 games with 17 starts.

Verse and Fiske played well together last season. That’s not a surprise, either since they both played at Florida State in 2023.

“We drafted them to bring an element of disruption from the front four or front five, depending on whether you’re in base, nickel, all those things,” general manager Les Snead said in early November, per the Rams’ official website. “To keep it simple, we drafted them to help us disrupt and I think they’re doing their part in helping us disrupt opposing offenses.”

It’s unclear if Verse will participate in LA’s preseason home opener against the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday. What we do know is that the Rams will want him on the field for the Sept. 7 regular season opener against the Houston Texans.

The Rams are coming off a season where they finished 10-7 overall — good enough to win the NFC West. Los Angeles went on to defeat the Minnesota Vikings in the Wild Card round, but fell short against the Detroit Lions in the divisional round. Soon to be four seasons removed from their last Super Bowl, Sean McVay and company will look to get back to the promised land this season.
