Jason Kelce has shared his reaction to his brother Travis Kelce’s incredible achievement for the Kansas City Chiefs. On Sunday, the four-time All-Pro tight end broke the all-time franchise record for the most career touchdowns after he scored his 84th career TD. It was a historic moment for Travis Kelce, who broke a tie with legendary running back Priest Holmes.
Jason Kelce had an iconic career with the Philadelphia Eagles, and the six-time All-Pro center knows all about building a legacy. This is exactly why the 38-year-old delivered a powerful message to congratulate his younger brother on Travis Kelce’s historic milestone.
Unfortunately for Travis Kelce, his latest feat came in a loss. Despite Kelce’s historic performance, the Chiefs still suffered defeat at the hands of the Denver Broncos, 22-19. This marked Kansas’ second straight loss after they fell to the Buffalo Bills in the preceding game, 28-21.
Kelce registered nine catches against Denver for a game-high 91 yards. His one touchdown from the game was a record-breaking one, and it prompted a heartfelt congratulatory message from Jason Kelce.
“There was one good thing that happened in the game, which is the Big Yeti set a record for the most touchdowns in organization history,” the Eagles legend said on the latest episode of the brothers’ “New Heights” podcast.
“I know you always like to downplay this stuff. Trav, this is a huge accomplishment and a testament to the career you've had in Kansas City, and I don't want to hear you downplay this one bit. This is incredible.”
Jason Kelce then underscored that his brother is now at the pinnacle of one of the league's most storied franchises. Jason Kelce also discussed how Travis Kelce passed Holmes, as well as all the other iconic players who came before him — a major development that deserves a ton of praise.
“The Chiefs are a storied organization that has been around since the beginning of the AFL, the NFL, like all of it,” Jason Kelce continued. “Tons of people have put that Chiefs uniform on, Hall of Famers out the wazoo, and you're the one guy at the top of that organization for an entire career in multiple categories.”
For context, Tony Gonzalez (76 career touchdowns), Tyreek Hill (67) and Jamaal Charles (64) are the three other players in the Top 5 for all-time career touchdowns for the Chiefs. Travis Kelce is in the company of some all-time greats, and the fact that he’s above all of them speaks volumes.
As Jason Kelce said, it isn’t just the all-time scoring record that his younger brother holds. The four-time Pro Bowl TE also has the most receptions and yards in Chiefs franchise history.
“I know you would trade all of that to have a successful season this year, because that's the type of person you are, but you deserve all the credit in the world for this accomplishment,” Jason Kelce continued. “Congratulations to the Big Yeti.”
Travis Kelce's next opportunity to add to his tally would be on Sunday when the Chiefs return to action for a Week 12 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. Kansas will host that game at Arrowhead Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET.
