Jaxson Dart’s incredible rookie campaign hit a road bump in the New York Giants’ Week 10 loss to the Chicago Bears. The 22-year-old was forced to exit the game in the second half due to a head injury. He was not able to return, which resulted in the Giants suffering a 24-20 loss to the Chicago Bears.
Dart finished the game with 19-of-29 completed passes for 242 yards. The Giants were up 17-10 before he exited. Russell Wilson checked into the game in the fourth quarter to replace Dart, and the 10-time Pro Bowl quarterback registered 3-of-7 completed passes for 45 yards and was sacked twice.
The Giants gave up 14 points in the final frame, as they allowed Chicago to mount an improbable double-digit comeback in the fourth quarter.
Dart was diagnosed with a concussion from the Bears game and has since been under the league’s concussion protocol. He sat out New York’s Week 11 game against the Green Bay Packers, which they lost again, 27-20.
The Giants, however, hope Dart will return soon. In fact, interim head coach Mike Kafka revealed that Dart could be cleared from the protocol as early as Thursday. This means that there is a significant chance that the former Ole Miss Rebels star could be ready to play on Sunday against the Detroit Lions.
Despite Kafka’s optimism, Dart remained limited in practice on Thursday. The team announced via the official injury report that Dart was a non-contact participant at practice. This was his status for Wednesday’s practice as well, meaning there was no upgrade for the young QB on Thursday.
The Giants have one final practice on Friday. Dart’s status for that one will be pivotal as he hopes to return in the next game. Again, Dart will need to be cleared from the concussion protocol before he is given the green light to take the field. Jameis Winston will get his second straight start at center if Dart is ruled out on Sunday.
The Giants, who are currently 2-9, will be on the road in Week 12. Detroit will host the game at Ford Field, with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET.
