Jay Cutler is facing more trouble after recently being sentenced to jail time in his 2024 DUI crash.
The former NFL Pro Bowl quarterback Cutler has been sued this week in Tennessee court by Perry Lee, the driver whom he rear-ended in the crash. US Weekly reports that Lee and his lawyers, John Morgan (the founder of Morgan & Morgan) and Sydney Pierce, filed suit against Cutler on Tuesday. The lawsuit alleges that the ex-Chicago Bears star was “at fault” for the crash, having been intoxicated and having “failed to use reasonable and due care” in operating his vehicle.
Lee is seeking unspecified damages in the lawsuit, noting that he has incurred medical bills and other expenses because of the crash and has also experienced physical and mental suffering as well as loss of enjoyment of life. You can read US Weekly’s full report on the situation here.
Now 42 years old, Cutler was initially arrested in Oct. 2024 on DUI and weapons charges after rear-ending Lee in Franklin, Tenn. Responding officers said that Cutler was slurring his words and had bloodshot eyes in the aftermath of the crash. Cutler also looked horrendous in the mug shot that was taken of him after his arrest.
Just last week, Cutler was formally sentenced to prison time (as well as a fine, supervised probation, and mandatory attendance of a DUI safety course) after reaching a plea deal with local prosecutors. He is now set to report to jail at the end of September.
Having last played in the NFL in 2017, Cutler has had multiple personal issues pile up on him in recent years. Cutler finalized his divorce from ex-wife Kristin Cavallari in 2022 and had to fire back last month at a claim that Cavallari made about their split.
