Jayden Daniels injury update sparks relief amid Commanders chaos

Washington Commanders fans seem to be taking heavy hit after heavy hit, and we are only seven games into the season. Inconsistent performances are one thing, but the team is also dealing with some monumental injury problems that have dented their chances of progress considerably.

Jayden Daniels is once again at the forefront. The dynamic quarterback left Week 7 against the Dallas Cowboys with a hamstring injury. He went to the locker room and didn't return after being initially listed as questionable. Reports in the game's immediate aftermath revealed that he was going to get an MRI before the Commanders came to any conclusions regarding his status moving forward.

This is the last thing this team needed. Things are threatening to spiral with so many influential figures missing and a brutal stretch of games upcoming. These fears weren't exactly helped by the news that prolific defensive end Dorance Armstrong Jr.'s breakout campaign has come to an abrupt halt thanks to a season-ending knee injury.

Commanders believe Jayden Daniels' hamstring injury won't be long-term

Dan Quinn has more encouraging news around Daniels, which provided a glimmer of light amid the almost constant doom and gloom on the health front. The head coach confirmed that tests showed the hamstring issue wasn't long-term. However, it's too soon to say whether the signal-caller will be available for Washington's high-profile Week 8 game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football.

Fans are clinging to anything positive right now. Daniels not being out for an extended period is exacftly that. But if he's not available versus the Chiefs at the intimidating Arrowhead Stadium, there is a very real likelihood that the Commanders will be 3-5 at the midseason point.

Daniels is a competitive individual. He wants to be out there, and Quinn revealed that he even wanted to go back in against the Cowboys with adrenaline surging. The coaching staff weren't willing to take that risk, and they'll be taking an ultra-cautious approach with their franchise player in the coming days before his injury designation is finalized.

Clues will be readily available by Daniels' practice participation. If he can't go, the Commanders are going to rely upon veteran backup Marcus Mariota and whatever wide receivers are healthy to make the trip. And there is just no telling how Washington plans to replace Armstrong, especially looking at how little pressure was generated without him versus Dallas.

A season where another deep playoff run was expected is quickly turning into an unmitigated nightmare. Hopefully, this will be the last of Daniels' issues, even if he has to miss one game to get himself firing on all cylinders.
