Jayden Daniels shows off highlight-worthy deep ball to Jahan Dotson during latest Commanders OTAs
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The best thing about new Washington Commanders Jayden Daniels is he's a big play waiting to happen.

He showed just that on Wednesday during Commanders' OTAs, too, as he completed a sick downfield pass to third-year wide receiver, Jahan Dotson, along the sideline.

The deep shot prowess comes as no surprise, considering how deadly Daniels' deep ball was in college - specifically, last year. Per Pro Football Focus, he led all quarterbacks with a 69.3% completion rate on passes of 20+ air yards, which was over 14% better than second-place Jalen Milroe. He also led the same 40 quarterbacks with at least 54 passing attempts in yards per attempt on deep balls (24.5), big-time throw rate (45.0%), and adjusted completion percentage (69.1%).

"He looks good," Commanders quarterback Marcus Mariota told reporters Wednesday. "I think he really moves well, he throws the ball well, and for a young guy that's coming in, he seems to really command the offense. I think that's very important at the quarterback position - to be able to stand in front of these guys, especially the older players, and nail it and say, I got this, I got it figured out.

"I think he's done a great job of that. We just gotta continue to help him grow and develop. And I think, at the end of the day, when we're all competing in that room, it makes every one of us better."

It's easy to see why there's a buzz around Daniels and the potential he brings with him to Washington and if he continues to make plays like above, the noise is only going to get louder as the weeks and months continue to pass.

And for a franchise like Washington, one that's craved positive noise for the better part of three decades, that's about as good as it gets, right now.
