Earlier this offseason, New York Giants right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor predicted that 2025 first-round draft pick Jaxson Dart is "going to be one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL this upcoming season."
Eluemunor offered that take over a month before the Giants selected Miami tackle Francis Mauigoa with the 10th overall pick of the 2026 NFL Draft. During a recent chat with Mark Cannizzaro of the New York Post (h/t NFL website), Eluemunor called his shot regarding what the Giants offensive line will be able to accomplish now that Mauigoa is part of that unit.
"I feel like our offensive line can be a top-10 line," Eluemunor confidently said.
Ahead of the draft, Dane Brugler of The Athletic ranked Mauigoa as the second-best offensive tackle and the 11th-best overall player in this year's class. Brugler noted that Mauigoa's "best NFL role may be as a guard rather than right tackle." Mauigoa is expected to start at right guard next to Eluemunor on the New York line.
Mauigoa reportedly has a herniated disc in his back that may one day require him to have surgery. However, the Giants reportedly were "supremely confident in the info they got on" Mauigoa’s back before they turned the draft card in.
Eluemunor entered the league as a 2017 fifth-round draft pick, and the 31-year-old received a three-year deal reportedly worth $39M from the Giants before the start of the new league year in March. He will now be tasked with helping get Mauigoa ready to protect Dart on Sundays.
"Mentorship sometimes means you're towards the end of your career, and I'm nowhere near that. I'm right in the middle of it," Eluemunor explained about his mindset this spring. "So, for me, I'm going to bring [Mauigoa] along with me. He's going to be right next to me, hopefully for a long time."
Giants fans are optimistic about the state of the franchise following the offseason hiring of head coach John Harbaugh. If Eluemunor and Mauigoa help to give Harbaugh a top-10 offensive line, Big Blue could compete for at least a wild-card playoff spot this coming season.
