Jerry Jones addresses Hall of Fame QB blasting Cowboys WRs

Dallas owner Jerry Jones seems to have no problem with former Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman calling out the team's wide receivers.

During a recent appearance on KTCK-AM in Dallas, Aikman, a "Monday Night Football" analyst, said Dallas' WRs are "lazy," and star WR CeeDee Lamb must improve his route running. On Tuesday, Jones said Aikman is "credible" and suggested the team is listening to his criticism.

"[Aikman's] very professional. I think he's very fair," Jones told KRLD-FM in Dallas Tuesday. "I was talking with [head coach Mike McCarthy] and our players, when they've got tight coverage, need to work on pushing on through physical contact. Now that's just an example, that's not the only thing."

McCarthy hasn't echoed those sentiments. During his Monday news conference, he stood up for his players.

"They don't carry any weight with me because I watch all the tape, I get to go to all the meetings, I'm at practice, I'm part of the games," McCarthy said. "So I have a clear understanding of what and where. Troy's statement in particular, I don't agree with the word selection. There is definitely need for improvement in every position, not just one position he commented on."

Lamb and third-year WR Jalen Tolbert have been Dallas' primary pass-catchers this season. Per Pro Football Focus, they've combined for 56 receptions for 757 yards, four touchdown catches and four drops.

Underwhelming WR production isn't the team's only problem. The Cowboys can't seem to run the ball or stop the run. Dallas ranks last in the NFL in rushing yards (77.2) and 27th in rushing yards allowed (143.2).

The Cowboys (3-3) are out of sync. They could fail to meet expectations if they don't solve their issues before Sunday's critical road game against the San Francisco 49ers (3-4).
