In 2025, LA Chargers edge rusher Tuli Tuipulotu will be entering his third year in the league. He'll be entering his second year in Jesse Minter's defensive system under head coach Jim Harbaugh.
The moment comes at a time of transition for the Chargers. Prior to free agency, the Chargers parted ways with five-time Pro Bowler Joey Bosa. Because of that moment this offseason, more of the defensive load will officially be on the shoulders of Tuipulotu. Minter spoke on Tuipulotu's growth and progress today.
"He knows exactly what we want him to do," Minter started. "And then he also has a play making skillset about him too. So, I think like the really good players, it's like can they do what you want them to do? But do they also have that little magic where they go outside of the realm and make a play? The really good, productive players have always been that way. I think he can be that. I think he's done a great job of taking advantage of the opportunity. He doesn't put too much pressure on himself, but he knows that it's time."
"He's really done that already," Minter continued. "He's started a bunch of games here, so it's not really completely new to him. But I'm really excited about where he's at and what he can do."
Chargers EDGE Khalil Mack also talked about Tuli Tuipulotu's game, mentioning him playing inside and outside in addition to a variety of roles:
"When you talk about development, this dude, he's taking all the steps," Mack started. "Playing all the different roles, inside, outside, droppin', he just does it all man...He does everything well."
Mack mentioned having certain expectations for Tuipulotu, but that he'd keep them to himself: "Putting' the action into it and not speaking on it too much."
Tuipulotu also spoke at today's media availability. He mentioned missing Joey Bosa and that the two are still in contact. As for what he expects for himself this year, he specifically talked about playing up to the standard of a leader like Khalil Mack:

Tuipulotu was also asked what he was looking to work on in training camp. He first mentioned working on the confidence aspect for the regular season. But he then mentioned improving his pass rushing in a rather blunt, joking fashion: "Obviously pass rushing...We've all seen T.J. Watt's deal. We gotta get to the quarterback."
Year three will ask a lot of questions for the Chargers' third-year EDGE in the absence of Bosa. But if he excels in his starting role, an extension could be on the table before he enters the final season of his rookie deal in 2026.
