Jets Bring In New WR Following Unfortunate Garrett Wilson News

  • The Jets’ season has been a disaster so far.
  • Things will only get tougher this week as Garrett Wilson is expected to miss their game against the Carolina Panthers.
  • New York signed wide receiver Trenton Irwin to bolster the offense in Wilson’s absence.

The New York Jets had high hopes of turning the franchise around when they hired former Detroit Lions coordinator Aaron Glenn as their head coach this offseason.

Unfortunately, it has been much the same for the Jets as they currently have an 0-6 record and have looked highly dysfunctional on both sides of the ball.

Quarterback Justin Fields has been utterly brutal since an impressive showing in Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

New York’s defense has also been a mess, failing to force a turnover in their first five games before finally recovering a fumble last week against the Denver Broncos.

The Jets face a beatable Carolina Panthers team this week, but things will only get tougher with wide receiver Garrett Wilson expected to miss the contest.

The receiving core is a bit thin outside of the former first-round pick, so the team signed veteran wideout Trenton Irwin to the practice squad.

Irwin spent his first five seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, where he experienced a decent amount of success as a supplement to star receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.

Now, he will have a chance to make an impact in New York if Wilson misses an extended period of time.

Glenn has been under a tremendous amount of pressure to get things under control, with a fanbase that has been starved of success for decades and a quarterback who offers little hope.

Fields threw for just 45 yards last week against the Broncos, which led to a viral spat between Glenn and the media when he was asked if he was mulling over a change at the position.

He backed Fields with conviction, so it doesn’t appear that the Jets will get anyone new under center at the moment.

The maligned quarterback will have a tough game ahead of him without Wilson, but hopefully Irwin can provide some relief.
