Jets coach changes tune slightly on QB Zach Wilson

After a brutal loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh commented on the play of Zach Wilson.

Coming into Week 10, the Jets were in what is likely to be considered a must-win spot against the Raiders. Coming off the loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, the Jets needed to get back into the win column to keep up with the other contenders in the AFC.

Despite having the lead for much of the game, the Jets never put the Raiders away and the Raiders played a good second half for the come-from-behind win. With the loss, the Jets are now 4-5 on the season and playoff hopes are dwindling.

After the game, head coach Robert Saleh spoke about how the team performed, and as always was peppered with questions about Zach Wilson. Here is some of what he had to say about Wilson’s performance, via Heavy.com.

 “I thought he did alright ya know. Obviously, a couple of plays I’m sure he wants back. I thought the linebacker made an unbelievable play on the interception. I thought he [Wilson] moved around the pocket well, he picked up some good yards with his legs. We were converting third downs, I think at the best rate that we’ve been converting,” Saleh said.

“To give a full assessment of Zach, I think it’d be fair to ask for everyone around him to play a little bit better. Especially with the penalties, but overall, I thought he did a decent job.”

While the loss to the Raiders wasn’t all on the shoulders of Wilson, he does have to take some of the blame for the loss. For the second straight game, the Jets were unable to find the end zone.

Furthermore, with a chance to win the game, Wilson threw a brutal interception when the Jets were driving. Wilson’s turnover-to-touchdown ratio is bad this season with 11 turnovers to just five touchdown passes.

With the offense looking extremely flat with Wilson under center, it seems like the time has come for the Jets to make a switch at quarterback if for no other reason than to provide a spark. While the Jets have certainly made a lot of mistakes the last couple of weeks, they aren’t getting the production they need from the quarterback position.

After the bad loss to the Raiders, we will have to see if Saleh and the Jets start to consider making a change at quarterback.
