Tony Adams once was considered a rising player on the New York Jets roster. To be an undrafted player and fight for a spot as an every-down safety is nothing short of impressive for the Jets developmental team.
Things have changed since Robert Saleh was fired, though. And it came ahead in Week 11.
Due to a number of different reasons including the poor tackling problems facing the team, Adams was benched for New York's 28-27 loss to the Indianapolis Colts last week.
Adams, 25, had recorded 58 tackles this season up until last week with five passes defended and a sack. He recorded three interceptions last season and appeared to be an ascending player on the roster.
Now, though, Adams' future in New York appears clouded with interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich not fully explaining why the safety was benched in the first place.
"Well, there's a lot of different things that went into that and I'd rather not expand on that, but there's a lot of things that went into that," Ulbrich said. "It was not disciplinary by any means."
If the Jets were benching Adams due to his poor tackling in the loss to Arizona two weeks ago, why was he benched over other players who struggled just as poorly on the field?
The lack of consistent accountability for some players but not all of the Jets is a big reason why the organization is 3-8 at this point in the season. It's hard to see things changing moving forward either.
