New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson and current Pittsburgh Steelers starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers seemingly weren't the best of friends when they were teammates in the final days of Rodgers' Jets tenure late last season.
While speaking with reporters on Thursday ahead of this coming Sunday's game between the Steelers and Jets, Wilson addressed his relationship with Rodgers.
"I ain't talked to Aaron since he left," Wilson explained, per Julia Stumbaugh of Bleacher Report. "So, I wish him the best this season, but we ain't chopped it up since he left."
Wilson's revelation is hardly surprising to those who have followed this particular storyline. Back in the spring, a report claimed that he and Rodgers "never saw eye-to-eye" as the 2024 Jets went 5-12. Later in the summer, Jets cornerback Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner shared that he and Rodgers hadn't "been in touch as much" once it became clear the future Hall of Famer was going to join the Steelers.
More recently, a story from this week noted that Rodgers' relationship with wide receiver Davante Adams "frustrated people" within the Jets during the 2024 campaign. Like Rodgers, Adams is no longer a Gang Green player.
Despite all that went wrong for the Jets from September 2023 through this past January, Wilson said that he is grateful he got "to play with a living legend in this game" for a period of time.
"For me, every day I got to learn something," Wilson added while speaking about Rodgers. "I tried to go about it the right way and always make sure I was being a sponge. And, man, I can't even— it's hard to put into words exactly what I took away from those experiences, sitting next to him and hearing how he talks about ball. I learned a lot. As far as the way things went, that's the game we play. When you put together a roster, a team, you've got to go out and play on Sundays, and when it came to Sundays, we didn't play our best football, and that's what it was."
Multiple Pittsburgh players insisted throughout the week that Rodgers hasn't spoken behind the scenes about wanting revenge on the team that parted ways with him earlier this year. That said, his return to MetLife Stadium for Sunday's clash could make for some must-see TV moments.
