For most, Justin Fields is on his last chance to show he is an NFL starter, with the New York Jets giving him a lifeline of sorts in the shape of a two-year deal and the starting role in Tann Engstrand's offense.
But while Fields is seen as a stop-gap player for Aaron Glenn's regime, that doesn't mean Justin can't take this seriously and put himself in the shop window of other NFL teams for next offseason.
To do that, he must play well, and that is something that hasn't happened regularly enough throughout his young career. But Justin is determined to make the most of this chance, and that means turning over every stone in an attempt to be the best version of himself.
And that includes being something he has never been before.
“I try not to get too high, too low, and kind of what I want to work on is getting hype,” Fields said. “I think out of practice, I was pretty energetic out there, and I think the guys feed off of me, so just seeing that out there, I think I'm going to try to be more vocal with the guys. But usually I'm pretty even-keeled, I don't really get too high or too low, but I think this year I'm going to try to turn it up a notch and really just try to bring that energy each and every day on the practice field and of course in the games too.”
Often seen as a quiet person, Fields has seen the benefits of bringing the energy to Jets practice, and now he wants that to be the standard.
Will that translate to wins on the field? That is uncertain, but last season, the narrative was the lack of energy on the sidelines with Aaron Rodgers and Co. So much was done to shift it, but nothing worked.
Now Fields is at the helm, change is coming.
We aren't sure if it will end the way Fields wants, but he seems determined to do everything he can to ensure his success in 2025.
And that includes being something he hasn't been before - a big energy guy.
