Jets Not Planning To Trade Breece Hall
USA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect

Jets running back Breece Hall came up in trade rumors in the lead-up to the November 2025 deadline. Although Hall was in a contract year at the time and the Jets were miles from contention, they turned down offers and kept him through the season. When the offseason rolled around, the Jets prevented Hall from leaving in free agency via the franchise tag and then handed him a three-year, $43.5MM deal in May.

Hall is now under Gang Green’s control through 2028, yet he has popped up again in trade speculation in advance of next Tuesday’s deadline. Head coach Aaron Glenn has said the Jets aren’t planning to move Hall, but Adam Schefter of ESPN and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network expect backfield-needy teams to call about him. Hall could be a consolation prize for teams that aren’t able to reel in the Colts’ Jonathan Taylor, the top trade candidate at the position.

The Jets look unlikely to part with Hall, but the main reason they could consider it? The emergence of third-year back Braelon Allen, who appears to have broken out since Hall suffered a quadriceps injury in a loss to the Lions in Week 3. The Jets have gone five games without Hall, but they haven’t missed a beat with the 6-foot-1, 235-pound Allen as their workhorse. He has gone over the 100-yard mark three times, including a career-best 147 in a loss to the Raiders last week, and piled up 504 and two touchdowns on 93 carries.

Allen has rushed for a robust 5.4 yards per attempt since Hall went down, while the latter has put up a measly 3.2 per carry on 51 totes this year. In fairness to Hall, he has averaged a solid 4.4 during his five-year career, which played a key role in the Jets making him one of the league’s 10 highest-paid backs last spring.

Hall tallied 51 carries to Hall’s 19 over the first three weeks of the season, but offensive coordinator Frank Reich may try to distribute the ball more evenly this Sunday in Kansas City. After practicing in full on Thursday, Hall is on track to return in Week 9. While this is an extreme long shot, it could end up as Hall’s last game as a Jet if a contender makes a strong enough offer before the deadline.
