Jets offense takes off with Mike White at quarterback

Given the way Mike White played for the New York Jets on Sunday, Zach Wilson better get comfortable sitting on the bench.

Starting in place of the ineffective Wilson, White played the best game of his career in a 31-10 win over the Chicago Bears to help the Jets keep pace in the AFC playoff race and improve their record to 7-4 on the season.

White finished the day by doing 22-for-28 for 315 yards and three touchdowns in what was the Jets' best offensive showing of the season.

Just for comparisons sake, Wilson has thrown for more than 250 yards just one time in his seven starts, and only threw for four total touchdowns.

White nearly matched that latter total in one start.

Wilson was benched after a dreadful performance in New England last week in a 10-3 loss, and then did not show any accountability in the aftermath.

White played a handful of games at the end of the 2021 season for the Jets with mixed results, helping to pull off a stunning upset over the Cincinnati Bengals and then struggling in his other starts.

The Jets have way more of an investment in Wilson, both in terms of draft capital (a No. 2 overall pick) and salary, but they have a legitimate chance to make the playoffs for the first time in a decade and are not in a position to be waiting around for Wilson to grow up and play better. If White gives them a better chance to win, he has to be the guy. On Sunday, he made a pretty strong argument that he deserves to keep getting more looks and more of an opportunity this season.
