The Aaron Rodgers-Davante Adams experiment in the Big Apple did not last long as the New York Jets have now parted ways with both players. The Jets have officially released Davante Adams after less than one full season with the team. Both him and Rodgers will be looking for new teams this offseason, and a lot of people expect them to team up together once again.
“The #Jets are now officially releasing WR Davante Adams,” Tom Pelissero said in a post.
This move is going to save the Jets a lot of money as Davante Adams did not have any guaranteed money left on his contract.
“The Jets will save $29.9M in salary cap space by releasing Davante Adams,” Adam Schefter said in a post. “He had no guaranteed money remaining on his contract.”
When Adams reunited with Aaron Rodgers in New York, a lot of people thought that the Jets finally had the tools to be successful. Unfortunately, that was not the case as it ended up being yet another disappointing season. The Jets ended up missing the playoffs once again as they finished the year with a 5-12 overall record.
Now, both Rodgers and Adams are no longer with the Jets, and the experiment was over. Had it happened a little bit earlier when Rodgers was still in his prime, it could’ve worked out. However, it was clear throughout this past season that he is not the quarterback that he once was.
Adams ended up playing 11 games with the Jets last season. He finished the year with 67 receptions for 854 yards and seven touchdowns. He had a good year with the Jets, but he will now be taking his talents elsewhere.
Davante Adams has been in the NFL for 11 seasons now as he started his career back in 2014. The Green Bay Packers selected him in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft, and Adams spent his first eight seasons with the Packers. The Rodgers-Adams duo was a special one in Green Bay, but it didn’t pan out in New York.
After leaving the Packers, Adams spent a little over two seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders before joining the Jets in the middle of last season.
Now, both Adams and Rodgers are on the lookout for new teams, and it wouldn’t be surprising at all if they ended up together once again. However, it didn’t work out with the Jets, so will it work somewhere else?
