Two weeks ago, reports of the New York Jets benching young safety Tony Adams were all anyone could talk about.
Why? Because anonymous reports mentioned by The Athletic stated that Jets owner Woody Johnson had made the decision over his interim coaching staff.
As the team prepares for their Week 13 contest against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich made it clear that Adams' time on the bench was over.
"Tony's a guy that obviously from a culture standpoint we absolutely love. He didn't play as much as I would've liked last week for whatever the reason, and this week he's going to play a little bit more," Ulbrich said. "He's going to get reintegrated into our defense."
Adams missed most of the team's 28-27 contest two weeks ago against the Indianapolis Colts due to a poor performance in the previous week's game against the Arizona Cardinals.
In total, Adams has recorded 58 tackles (two for losses), with a sack, and five passes defended. While his numbers are roughly on par with his breakout season in 2023, it's clear the former undrafted free agent doesn't have much favor with the higher-ups in the organization.
That leaves the final six games of the regular season so important.
If Adams can play at a high level - and put thr controversial move behind him - the Jets will have another young player to build around through their new regime starting in 2025.
In many ways, Adams is playing for his future in football over the next month, and the Jets coaching staff believes more playing time will suit him well.
